A couple of years of boarding school has left the ring of the dinner-time bell firmly in my mind. I have to admit that it must have been difficult for the boarding house staff to make our dining room “cosy”, although the evening meal at my parent’s table was always a time for gathering together and sharing your experiences of the day.
It is my hope to create a dining area that helps foster that same sense of togetherness in my girls. Here are some inspiration images I have collected.
Kerri Russell’s home – Elle Décor
Adore the chairs, simple curtains, dark timber floors and light streaming through.
Frederic Malle – Architectural Digest
Lurve the blocks of colour, using blue and green together, shape of the pendant, eclectic art on the walls.

White walls, dark timber floors, different coloured chairs.
unknown
Chairs, graphic rug, white walls (storage?), pretty flowers.
via Elle Décor
Blocks of colour, book case and a sofa under the window.
via Mini & Meg
White table, coloured chairs, light!!!
So, what have I learnt putting these images together??
My dining area must have: a white table, colour in pretty large blocks, timber floors, white walls with art and/or bookcase, large windows. some fresh flowers never go astray either :)
What do you love in a dining space?
