A shout-out thanks

the-rainbow

By Miss I

I love the bloggy connections that are made by following, commenting and creating your own blog. I find it hard to explain to anyone who doesn’t already blog/follow – but, boy do I have fun doing my own thang! You know??!!?

So, a sincere thanks to these blogs that have given Nouveau Traditionalis a shout-out lately, and sent some new readers my way :)

Sarah at My First Little Place

Lisa at Informal Home

I also want to thank Amy at Serving Pink Lemonade for sharing some great blog how-to. I have been playing with some of my blog features, and was stuck on how to create a link to specific tags that updates automatically. Amy was so helpful and writes a fab blog to-boot! Check it out and check out the new links to the left of my blog, taking you to specific renovation posts (so far, the bedrooms). Let me know what you think of the updates!

Finally – thanks to the new Followers of Nouveau Traditionalis. I love reading your comments and sharing some bloggy-love. Feel free to keep in touch via email or comments :)

Man-style styling

I need some ideas for accessorising the man-side of the bed.
DSCF4059
Hub’s bedside table is a bit bare.
He loves tolerates the mirror. I added the vintage bowl as a small catch-all for loose change etc.
Hub’s does not read in bed and isn’t keen on having a bedside lamp.
He dislikes the scent of flowers when going to sleep, so a pretty masculine vase with roses or similar is out, as is a cute manly ticking clock.

via House of Turquoise – what a beautiful view to wake to!
So:
lamp  flowers  clock  books
What does that leave?
Maybe a framed photo(s) to break-up the roundness of the mirror?
A small art work? Candle(s)? Tray?
Any ideas?

Moi? {blush}

Many thanks to Lisa at Informal Home – my first award :)
AwardStylish-Blogger
Lisa has a fab blog that I check out daily (or whenever she posts!), and I am thrilled to share with you all and pass the award onto more stylish bloggers!
So, hmmm, 7 things about myself (this is scary):
1. I ‘m realising that I am coming back to many of the interior looks I grew-up with (antique cupboards, bookcases full of books, reminders of family all around, a dash of folkiness).
2. I play guitar and love singing folk-country-bluegrass music.
3. One of my earliest memories is chasing a rainbow through a paddock.
4. I’m a design-mag-whore who hides my addiction from my hubby (but I think he is onto me).
5. I love painting and hope to allocate a space to painting in the future.
6. Spent time regularly reorganising my room as a child, often swapping furniture with my sister and making my own bookshelves out of bricks and timber.
7. Am not too keen on shiny fabrics and sequins in home décor.

Ok, a list of bloggers to pass the award onto:
1. Naomi at Live Breath Décor
2. Sarah at My first little place
3. Michelle at Life at Number 2
4. Lisa at Ledamae, and
5. Kelly at Kelly Green.
All blogs I love visiting regularly and recommend you check out too – if you haven’t already!

Thanks again Lisa, you made my day :)

Mixed feelings

The use of animal products remains controversial in design, whether it be fashion or interior design. I have to admit to having mixed feelings about it…… I hate the idea of animals being farmed and culled in a cruel or mean manner, and have friends that are strict vegans (primarily for the animal cruelty issue).

But, I adore the look and feel of many animal products.

Leather (pouffe and hide):

caramel pouffe via Table Tonic, love that texture!

Skin:

Feathers:

via Table Tonic - Totally depends on location and context for me with these.

Probably most controversial, fur:

fur_via_mfamb

Jenny from MFAMB posts some gorgeous bedrooms featuring fur throws, wow, they look lux.

So, I had to take the plunge and get myself a little something- something…

But…

You may be happy to know it is fake faux ;)

A stylish addition to my bedside for those night-time ideas and thoughts that strike me :)

Where do you stand on animal products? Do you prefer some over others? Or none at all??? And do you keep a diary/journal/notebook???

The last one

We recently had the pleasure of spending some time in Sydney with my sister to help celebrate her wedding.
I am fortunate to have fantastic siblings, an older brother and younger sister, but we were born particularly closely …so we are very close in age.
This created a bit of love-hate growing up…
But mostly love…

I can’t tell you how much pleasure I got from being a part of my sisters’ wedding, to an absolutely fabulous guy.

Married at Watson Bay chapel. Stunning location.
My daughters got to be a part of the wedding party too:

As did my sister’s daughter Miss A:

My sister organised all of her wedding, right down to making the wedding favours - cotton totes with “To have & to hold” printed on them:

and designing a lolly-table (all the jars are hers):

The Reception was at The Tea Rooms, and their service was fantastic. Lots of dancing. And the best groom’s speech I have ever heard. I wish I had it written down. One of my favourite parts was when he described the first time he met my sister at a function. He said meeting her was like looking at the sun and then looking away and still having the image forever in your memory. Loved it.
But, as for this post’s title?
A little joke for my sister, who at about age 11 had an almighty melt-down when she felt she was being forgotten in our family. It went something like this..
“My rooms was last to be painted, I was the last to get a door, I am the last to get new clothes andI was the last to be born!!!”
As you can imagine, it took a while to live that one down.

My sis and I.
Sorry you were the last to be born sis, but you can say you might have been the last to get married …but I think it was worth the wait. I wish you so much happiness :)

Master bedroom update

So hubs has moved to Sydney, so I find myself trying to fill-in spare time in the evening once the kids are in bed.
The master bedroom is finally getting some attention, starting with my vintage mirrors above the bedside tables:
DSCF4059
I also totally stole Jenny’s idea and want to leave these Christmas lights in this vase for a while longer:

And I got an early Valentine’s Day present…
DSCF3981
I mentioned these cushions here. I love them. But, am now on the look out for some fabric Lisa mentioned… I feel the need for some sewing :)
But back to the cushions - Thanks Hubs :)

The big news

We are moving.
AGAIN.
Hubs has taken a job in Sydney.
Wowsers.
I thought the move from Adelaide to country SA was big enough. Now we are moving over to the nearly-unknown. I don’t even know the names of most of the suburbs, let alone what are the nice suburbs to live in (in our budget too, lol).
In any case, the hubs has already made the move and the kids and I follow just before Easter. Happy packing, hey!?!

Coveting…

these…

But which one??

Looking for an accent pillow for our bed. I am going for a white-black-grey colour scheme, with blue or pink accents.

Grey will tie-in nicely with the painting above our bed, but pink is feeling more Summer-like to me at the moment.

Hubs is definitely not a big “pink” kinda-guy, so will have to do it in small doses! Hey! Valentine’s Day is approaching…. I see some not-so-subtle hints coming up ;)

Thoughts?
