Nouveau Traditionalis

(noun) "new traditions"
a wanky phrase I made up to name the type of interior design I love.
what I want to create for myself and my family as we make a fresh start in life

No rest for the wicked

So, back in freezing SA… the pine pollen is flowing, the frost is glowing..I think I am losing it (too late!).

House is half unpacked, but a ridiculous amount of boxes remain. Do I really have this much crap? Don’t even mention the garage that didn’t get emptied when we moved in the first place.

Desperately would love to spend a whole weekend in bed. Don’t even expect a coffee or breakfast…just time to lie about and watch the sun try to creep through the curtains and recharge the batteries, you know??

Any of these gorgeous rooms will do:

For sale: retro sofa

Hi all!

Wow, what a few weeks we have had!

So, we are moving back to SA….I know, I know, I only just got to Sydney. More on that later! Anyway, I have decided to sell this great retro sofa that I picked up from its original owners. I have posted on Gumtree, but if you or anyone you know may be interested, here are the details:

Retro sofa in great condition. Original brown woolen upholstery with no tears, stains or holes. Removable covers. Timber frame in good condition, some marks on right arm (light sanding and oil would fix it, I just ran out of time, lol). Base was re-strapped by original owners, back retains original wooden slats. Great shape to arms and a generous length, comfortably seating 3-4 adults. I would love it to go to a good home, sob! Only $200 as we need it gone asap.

I had plans for this baby, so hope someone else can make it their own! I’ve seen them go for lots more on ebay, but don’t have time to wait for auction.

Email me or comment here asap if you are interested and please pass info along to anyone you know who could be interested.

Dinner bell!

A couple of years of boarding school has left the ring of the dinner-time bell firmly in my mind. I have to admit that it must have been difficult for the boarding house staff to make our dining room “cosy”, although the evening meal at my parent’s table was always a time for gathering together and sharing your experiences of the day.

It is my hope to create a dining area that helps foster that same sense of togetherness in my girls. Here are some inspiration images I have collected.

Adore the chairs, simple curtains, dark timber floors and light streaming through.

Lurve the blocks of colour, using blue and green together, shape of the pendant, eclectic art on the walls.

Chairs, graphic rug, white walls (storage?), pretty flowers.

Blocks of colour, book case and a sofa under the window.

White table, coloured chairs, light!!!

So, what have I learnt putting these images together??

My dining area must have: a white table, colour in pretty large blocks, timber floors, white walls with art and/or bookcase, large windows. some fresh flowers never go astray either :)

What do you love in a dining space?

In the palm of her hands…

Miss I is missing our old hometown desperately.

She misses her friends,

her school,

her grandparents,

her trampoline,

her garden,

her room,

her home….

We’ve been trying to spend some time with my sister and her daughter to provide the extra family-time Miss I is accustomed to. She was hanging out at her aunty’s and playing with pegs and came up with this:

isy-volcano

Pretty cool I reckon! (iPhone qual)

Perhaps she could have warned British Airways and KLM that another volcano was about to go??

Anyway, I will be trying to get her bedroom in our rental a bit more “done” in the coming weeks, to help her settle in better. Here are some inspiration shots:

A little bit of storm, a little bit of sun…

I am just so loving this photograph by Magnus Anesund:

The teal and orange with that hit of red in the corner is rocking my boat today. And I would love to just pile up my books like that – rainbow colour-coded shelves be damned! lol

What’s rocking your world today?

The in-betweeners

Today feels like the day-between.

Between moving and trying to enjoy Easter-Anzac weekend, and the start of a new school and trying to figure out the horrid NSW preschool system (you really get ripped off here as far as not having government funded preschool available for every child. I had no idea).

Miss I has been alternating between bouncing off the walls with nervous energy (no, it started before the chocolate onslaught) and subsiding into tears and tantrums (not her usual MO). Miss T has been sleeping horribly (after 2 months of excellent sleeping, it is coming as a bit of shock to my system, lol).

I am struggling to get the last few house things that made the move into an order I can feel happy with. We are missing a dining table and credenza, so I probably should not have bothered dragging along my beloved tea wares and silver, lol. Oh well. Good things come to those who…whatever.

Craving some sunshine on this overcast wet day in Sydney, so some pics to cheer me up :

The last pic has a very similar wall colour to what we have in our new rental (no-paint policy). I am trying to think of a colour scheme I can put with it without having to buy a whole new décor.

Hope you are all having a nice end to the long weekend. It is nice to be back blogging :)
